MEN’S CONFERENCE
Do your problems appear larger than our God, and do His promises seem powerless to quiet your fears, soothe your grief, alleviate your worries, or motivate your obedience? Do you find yourself questioning God, who conquers armies and parts the sea? Are you sceptical of the Lord who walks on waves and calls the dead back from the grave? If you have subtly forgotten God’s power, wisdom, and tenderness, then you need to behold the God who provides them.
In Isaiah 40, the prophet finds himself among a group of despondent Israelites. The nation that once radiated brilliance akin to the stars in the sky has been overshadowed by exile. Like them, your challenges may be significant, possibly greater than you might realize. However, your God is transcendent, and His promises to you are more robust and assured. Therefore, direct your gaze upward from your difficulties. Attune your ears once more to God’s formidable and compassionate voice. Seek Him, reach out to His divine assistance in recognizing and perceiving Him who raises the dead.

John Crotts is the Pastor-Teacher of Faith Bible Church in Sharpsburg, Georgia, just south of Atlanta. He and his wife, Lynn, have been in Georgia since 1995 and together have four children. John graduated from Liberty University in 1990, received his MDiv from The Master’s Seminary in 1995, and a DMin from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2014. He has served as a board member of FIRE (The Fellowship of Independent Reformed Evangelicals).
John’s books are Mighty Men: The Starter’s Guide to Leading Your Family, Craftsmen: Christ-Centered Proverbs for Men, Loving the Church, Tying the Knot Tighter with Martha Peace, Upsetting the World, John Newton in the Bitesize Biography series, and Graciousness: Tempering Truth with Love.
ONE YEAR BIBLICAL COUNSELLING TRAINING
SMTI is an ACBC training centre in Africa that enables individuals to pursue certification with the Association of Certified Biblical Counsellors (ACBC). In fulfilment of the ACBC certification requirements for Phase One, SMTI will now be offering a One-Year Biblical Counselling Training Course (SMTI-ONE). This course has painstakingly curated and streamlined the essential Biblical Counselling principles for their optimal application to the South African context.
We believe this training will equip members to effectively use Scripture in one another ministries in the church and among family and friends. Church members will learn to engage with various counselling issues, working to identify both the causes and biblical solutions to resolve them. This course will give you confidence that the Scriptures are sufficient, understandable, and practical in the achievement of their intended goal.
This online course is presented on a rotational basis. Students can enrol at the beginning of each unit. The course can be complete in one year from the start date.
MASTER OF BIBLICAL COUNSELING
From its inception, Strengthening Ministries Training Institute (SMTI) has desired to offer an accredited graduate degree programme for the African context. This desire was recently realised when the SMTI training programme became accredited. In association with SMTI in Pretoria, South Africa, a Master of Biblical Counselling degree will be offered through Brookes Bible College in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
The Master of Biblical Counselling degree is a 33-credit hour (and thesis) programme that is able to equip Christians with advanced Biblical Counselling training. This online degree will enable Christian workers to biblically identify and describe the problems people face. Students will be equipped to counsel a wide variety of life’s problems using the solutions that God offers through His all-sufficient Word.
Highlights of the programme include premier graduate-level counselling training with a cross-cultural counselling emphasis. Further, the master’s level research supplies students with lifelong learning skills, church-focused service, and contributions to the discipline of Biblical Counselling. The programme also leads to certification with the Association of Certified Biblical Counsellors (ACBC).
Please note that because it is a graduate-level programme, an Honours degree (in any field) is needed to successfully apply.
