Family Bible Hour
Family Bible Hour (FBH) is an hour of theological teaching to train the whole family on central biblical truths in the Christian life. FBH is divided into two main groups, adults, and children, while the children are divided up into smaller classes according to age. This ensures the opportunity to minister at an appropriate level to each individual within the family.
The Children’s Classes exist to teach doctrine on a level that will make doctrine understandable. The Bible teaches that parents are responsible for the education of their children (Ephesians 6:5). In light of this, the FBH class for children is not compulsory but merely exist to work alongside parents in the important task of accomplishing the task that was given to fathers.
The Adult Class exists to teach adults essential doctrines that will equip them for ministry in the home and in the church. This year we will focus on BECOMING A BIBLICAL LEADER WHERE YOU ARE.
Leaders in the church and family have a significant impact on the health and maturity of the congregation and the household. Biblical leadership looks very different than the leadership of the world and so it must be intentionally cultivated through the study and application of God’s word.
Becoming a Biblical Leader for women: The women’s Edition focuses on equipping women. God has established unique roles and priorities for women within the church and home. Women must be taught how to use their gifts to build up the body of Christ. (Titus 2:3-5) Often, the focus is placed on what women cannot do – serve as pastors or elders – rather than on the vital role they do play in the life of the body and at home. Alexander Strauch states: “The principle of male headship does not diminish the significance and necessity of a woman’s active involvement in the Lord’s work. Women are tremendous evangelists, prayer warriors, generation builders, mercy ministers, caregivers, dispensers of wisdom, and lovers of the Lord.”
Becoming a Biblical Leader for men: The men’s edition is designed to help develop individuals for church leadership by providing a general overview of the understanding, knowledge, and character necessary for biblical leadership through individual study and interaction with a mentor. While intended to equip those who may be potential future elders, deacons, or other ministry leaders, it is also appropriate for any believer as the character and knowledge required for leadership should be desired, pursued, and demonstrated in the daily life of every Christian.
